Harnas Gobabis

Day Tours Wildlife Sanctuary

Harnas is a safe haven for many abandoned, injured, and unloved animals, domestic and wild. Here, these animals find a place where they can recover, adapt, and live safely. The Harnas vision has been an expensive project, but seeing these animals recover and thrive is worth every effort and financial sacrifice.

Guests on Harnas have the opportunity to experience the magic and beauty of every passing second in utmost comfort, and the Harnas staff strives to cater to every need of their guests. Guided tours are available where you can watch various animal feedings - from the typical frenzy of the Africa wild dogs to the ferocious roaring of the magnificent lions. Different tours take place at various times of the day to accommodate the habits of the many different animal species fed and cared for. You can also participate in game drives and Life Line tours to get a first hand insight into the process of rehabilitating animals. A swimming pool awaits you to cool down on the sizzling African afternoons, and meals and drinks can be found at the lapa, where you will be greeted by a multitude of creatures big and small.

Harnas provides a wide variety of accommodations for its guests, from comfortable rustic chalets to luxury rooms with air conditioning and en-suite bathrooms. Camp sites with ablution blocks and bush camping for the more adventurous are also available. All accommodations come with wonderful sights and sounds of the abundant African fauna and flora: the roaring bush call of the lions, grazing springbok on the airstrip, a soft cat rubbing up against your leg, a chirping pack of mongooses feeding on the lawn, and a menagerie of other surprises.

The Harnas Animal Clinic was founded through donations and contributions from people all over the world. Over the years Harnas has performed many surgeries in the clinic, saving the lives of a multitude of animals. Several private veterinary doctors and clinics contribute to the work on Harnas, although the service of a permanent veterinarian has recently been secured. The Animal Clinic is also frequently used as a research facility to study individual subjects up close to gain an understanding of animal anatomy and physiology.
