Enjoy a unique view onto the Petrified Dunes of the Namib Desert!
Moon Mountain Lodge offers luxury tented accommodation in the Namib Desert. The lodge was built in 2009 on the farm named Diep Rivier. It is adjacent to the C19 situated 30 km south of Solitaire. En route to the apricot-coloured dunes of Sossusvlei, yet far enough for travellers looking for privacy and solitude, the lodge is ideal for independent travellers.
NEW at Moon Mountain Lodge: Just recently we have completed the construction of our new Vegetable Garden. Moon Mountain Lodge will now grow their own fresh vegetabels and serve these to our esteemed guests for dinner and breakfast.
There are 11 luxury tented rooms with an en-suite bathroom and a private deck with a splash pool. This is the perfect spot for sundowners or 'moonrisers'. There are also 6 spacious suites boasting all these facilities plus an extra private lounge area for the ultimate relaxation hub.
All the units are elevated on stilts above the surroundings, making it extra environmentally friendly. This means there are no air conditioners, which is also not needed, since the chic canvas construction permits ventilation. The prevailing west wind cools the rooms at the hottest time of the year. This ultimately makes guests feel closer to nature.
Endless vistas fringed by the Naukluft Mountains can be enjoyed from the comfort and privacy of your own room with its wooden deck, while gemsbok, springbok and mountain zebra take turns to keep you company. As you are surrounded by this breath-taking environment, there is no need for a television, although there is one in the main building’s lounge. Free Wi-Fi is also offered only in the main restaurant area.
Honeymooners or those who want to enjoy a romantic night in can request room service for dinner. Nebula Restaurant is well-known for its delicious traditional meals. It can host up to 46 guests. Seasonal vegetables grow in the on-site garden, which is made possible by a water recycling plant, optimising water usage.
Grab a drink at Cosmos Bar and relax on the deck overlooking the Namib’s petrified dunes. You can also enjoy the sunset from here or stargaze the night away. Light pollution in Namibia is minimal and therefore, as the name of the lodge implies, it is the perfect place for optimum views of the night sky.
Moon Mountain Lodge's spectacular scenery makes it a popular choice for self-drives while visiting the Sosssuvlei and Sesriem areas.
If you want to explore the surrounds from up close, don’t hesitate to book an activity or two. The sunset nature drive is highly recommended and leaves all guests satisfied – relax with a cold drink in hand watching the sun set over the spectacular Namib landscape. Hikers can follow the various trails in Naukluft Park where they will find a myriad of natural water pools to cool down. Wholesome picnic breakfast packs are provided for guests who leave early on their excursions.
Only a 60 km drive further, you will find the Sesriem gate, which is the entrance to the world's highest dunes at Sossusvlei, and other enchanting sights such as Deadvlei and Sesriem Canyon.
