Sesriem Canyon

The 2km long Sesriem Canyon cuts through the landscape at 30m deep in some areas. For the Dorsland trekkers it took 6 leather thongs tied together with a bucket at the end to reach the cool waters of the canyon, hence the name "six thong" or Sesriem in Afrikaans. When the Tsauchab river floods it fills up the canyon and creates an incredible site as the water trickles down the rocky floor bed. A trail leads down into the canyon for the adventurous traveler and one can lay eyes upon a very rich geological history hidden by the walls. Take note though that in some places the gorge is only about 2m wide.
