The Khowarib Schlucht is an intriguing geological formation that offers stunning scenery, fauna and an untamed track. Ploughing through the thick sands of the Hoanib River and traversing wild landscapes, the route nevertheless is quite magnificent and will surely test any driver’s 4x4 capabilities with vigor. The trail begins just west of Sesfontein and extends all the way towards the small township of Umumbaadjie, although 55km of adventure still lies ahead from there. Make sure that you are well equipped and that every precaution is taken before attempting to conquer this challenging route, the track is not marked at all. Plan days well in advance and inform others of where you will be travelling, keeping in mind that the Kaokoland can be as unforgiving as it is beautiful.
