Explore the Moon Landscape and the Namib Desert gravel plains, with dolomite outcrops, lava dykes, and evidence of at least 3 ice ages. See the Welwitschia plants, which only grow in a small belt in this area, the Welwitschia Plains. Admire plants up to 1500 years old, unique in that they only have two leaves coming out of the stem. The Moon Landscape is about 500 million years old and is the only place on earth to experience the feeling of being on another planet. Visit Goanikontes, the first freshwater oasis in the desert, which has attracted human life and development here. Learn about the history of the area, rich with memories of hard days gone by. Drive past the tiny lichens, a field covering the desert, tiny living organisms, a joint venture between an algae and mushroom.
