Description
Take on Spitzkoppe’s true summit on a private climbing adventure that carries you from afternoon light into the night. This approximately 10-hour outing is designed for travelers with suitable fitness and climbing experience who want to attempt the summit in one day. Meet your climbing guide at Spitzkoppe Community Restcamp reception for a 3 PM departure. Begin with a briefing and equipment check before hiking and scrambling to the technical climbing route. Follow your guide on the multi-pitch granite ascent, working towards the summit in time to watch the sunset over the Namib Desert. After the sunset, descend by abseiling in the dark with headlamps, then complete the return approach with your guide. Expect to finish around 1 AM the following morning. Participants must meet the fitness, climbing experience and confidence requirements described below. The guide may turn back if a participant’s fitness, climbing ability or comfort with exposed terrain and the night descent is insufficient to continue safely. The experience is private, with a maximum of four guests. General climbing equipment, helmets, guiding, a first aid kit, permits and climbing documentation are included. Guests need strong fitness, previous climbing experience and confidence with heights, exposed terrain and a night descent. Share your experience with Climb Away before the climb so the guide can assess suitability. This outing covers the true summit climb.
