Description

Itinerary Stop At Walvis Lagoon Upon arrival at the port of Walvis Bay. You will meet the guide at the terminal gate, board an air-conditioned van, and head to the Lagoon. Home to Great and Lesser flamingos, Damara terns, pelicans, avocets, and numerous migrant water birds, the Walvis Bay Lagoon is one of the richest and most important wetlands in southern Africa. Whales and dolphins occasionally enter the lagoon and can often be spotted in the ocean from the lagoon. Duration 1hr Stop At Walvis Bay Salt The next stop is Walvis Bay Salt Holdings (Pty) Ltd, through its various subsidiaries, which is the largest producer of solar sea salt in sub-Saharan Africa. The Company processes 90 million m3 (cubic meter) of seawater per annum to produce more than 900 000 tons of high-quality salt per annum. The total operation covers an area of 5000ha. Duration 30 mins Stop At Dune 7 Proceed o Dune 7 is the highest sand dune in the coastal dune belt. The sand here is five million years old. It is comprised mostly of tiny grains of coated in a thin layer of iron oxide, giving the Namib its distinctive red color. Dunes form when the wind blows sand into a sheltered area behind an obstacle. Dunes grow as grains of sand accumulate. Every dune has a windward side and a slip face. The desert’s dunes are the highest stationary sand dunes in the world (the highest reaching 1,600 feet) and emit constant rumbling and booming sounds, strangely enough, like singing. Duration 1hr Stop At Rossmund Golf Resort Head to Rossmund Golf Resort, which is a premier leisure resort and one of only 5 desert golf courses in the world. We’re situated just 7 minute’s drive from Swakopmund’s town center, on the banks of the ephemeral Swakop River in the oldest desert in the world, the Namib Desert. You will have a lunch stop to enjoy Namibia cuisine. Duration 2hrs Stop At Swakopmund Your last stop will be Swakopmund, a seaside resort town, which makes it the premier holiday getaway in Namibia. The interior of Namibia has intense heat during the summer months, therefore making the coast the perfect December getaway for that real holiday feel. Another relief to the heat is the cool early mornings and evenings in Swakopmund throughout the year, because of the cold Atlantic Ocean meeting the Namib Desert creating a fog bank. You will drive back to the port of Walvis Bay where you will be dropped off at 10 pm to join your cruise.
