Directions to Gobabis Museum
Gobabis is a Khoi-Khoi name meaning 'the place of strife', the town is about 205km from the capital city. The name also spelt as 'Gobbabis' changes the entire meaning to 'drinking place of elephants' which is a reference to the nearby Swart-Nossob river.
The Gobabis museum has exhibitions of a variety of agricultural implements due to the town's lucrative cattle farming endeavours. The museum houses a large collection of historic artifacts which is opened upon request.
Accommodation in and around the Gobabis area includes the Arnhem Cave rest camp, Enungu clay house, Kalahari bush breaks, Kiripotib guest farm and the Sandune lodge.
